FRIGID Festival 2019: Invisibility
Written by Elaine Bledsoe
Invisibility is Richard Cardillo’s amazing life story. Encompassing multiple decades, continents, and causes, Richard takes us on his journey. When he becomes a Catholic monk to escape his own sexuality, he is sent to Peru, where he encounters disease and death. In the face of tragedy, Richard dedicates his life to serving those in need, but realizes he cannot live a true life as a monk. As he begins a new life teaching, Richard begins his first relationship with a man and faces the challenges of ingrained homophobia even within the gay community as violence rocks the world of his students. Upon his return to America, Richard faces disease once more as he lends his efforts to ending the AIDS crisis.
Richard’s show is a call to action, an encouragement to love yourself, and a reminder of the empathy that humans owe one another.
